Midnight Ride presents an intergalactic vignette from the personal cinema of New York-based artist, Stickymonger.

The circular edition acts as a window to the realm of carefree fantasy explored throughout the artist’s practice. Its blue-haired subject speeds through the night – teddy bear in hand. Each print is finished with a layer of sparkling, metallic and pearlescent details, echoing the dappled textures created by Stickymonger’s signature spray paint technique and bringing the artwork to life when viewed in darkness.

Framing

Prints arrive float-mounted in a circular solid wood frame, painted black and fitted with UV plexiglass for protection.

Medium

Handmade 14-layer screenprint with deckled edges, printed on 300gsm Somerset Satin White paper and finished with iridescent silver sparkle, blue metallic and white pearl details.

Stickymonger holding a spraypaint can up to a piece of artwork on an easel

Stickymonger6 collaborationsStickymonger creates manga-esque portraits with subtle elements of surrealism. Young contemplative women pose in familiar settings – eating, smoking and exploring. In monochrome and pastel colour palettes, hazy textures are rendered in multiple layers of spray paint and acrylic. The artist also makes fibreglass sculptures, murals and large-scale vinyl installations. A range of influences inform her practice. In particular 19th century modernist Italian painter Giorgio de Chirico and Japanese anime from the late 1970s and 80s such as Galaxy Express 999 and Toward Terra. But above all, Stickmonger’s main inspiration is life itself – “I just want to capture these never-ending moments and feelings that inspire me.”
