Allocation
Limited editions are split into two groups: a public allocation, available at launch, and an allocation available for pre-order.
The public allocation is available to everyone when an edition launches, either in a draw or on a first come first served basis. Draw winners are selected at random, so everyone has an equal chance of winning. Whether the public allocation is available through draw or on a first come first served basis varies from edition to edition and is indicated on the product page. You can read more about how our launch mechanisms work on this page.
Artworks available for pre-order are sold to collectors ahead of the edition’s launch date. This is done for a number of reasons, as detailed below.
Pre-orders allow us to proactively place a portion of an edition with specific types of collectors. Within these groups, we try to assign pre-orders as fairly as possible, giving priority to those who have missed out on editions they've applied for in the past, and those who apply early.
Onboarding new collectors: as part of our mission to make collecting art more accessible, we reserve some of the pre-order allocation for people who have never collected with us before – helping them get started on their collecting journey.
Rewarding existing collectors: we typically assign a number of editions to existing collectors who may have missed out on an earlier edition, or who we know are particularly supportive of an artist’s practice.
Growing artists’ collector communities: some artworks will often be reserved for collectors that broaden an artist’s collector base. For example, we have introduced many of our more traditional collectors to the work of web3 artists through pre-orders.
Fulfilling artist wishes: artists will often have a list of collectors – friends and family, for example – that they’d like us to reserve artworks for.
Supporting partners: when we collaborate with galleries, museums or curators we often offer pre-orders to their supporters or community members.
The exact number of pre-orders available for an edition depends on multiple factors, including the specifics of the edition, the objectives of the artist, the number reserved for collectors referred by the artist or partners, and the dynamics of the artist’s market, among others. More information on the different objectives we have when using pre-orders is detailed in the answer above.
As a result of this, the portion of an edition sold through pre-orders can vary widely. We will always communicate the minimum number of artworks available through the public allocation, whether by draw or on a first come first served basis, on the product page. For example, “Edition of 30, minimum 15 available by draw”, or “Edition of 50, minimum 25 available on launch day.”
Pre-orders will be open for application on the website, or you can reach out to our advisory team via collecting@avantarte.com to express interest in pre-ordering an edition, or ask any questions.
