Ai Weiwei's iconic middle finger is now a luminous pair of new limited edition sculptures.

In his landmark series Study of Perspective, Ai Weiwei photographed himself giving the finger to historic landmarks worldwide. The series began in Tiananmen Square in 1995 and has since taken on the Colosseum, the Eiffel Tower, and the White House, among countless others.

For Ai Weiwei, the middle finger represents our collective right to express individual beliefs – a simple yet symbolic gesture that anyone can perform. This sculptural duo is made from cast aluminium with a glow-in-the-dark finish, crafted in close collaboration with the artist.

We often forget that we have a middle finger. Or even if we know we have a middle finger, we misuse it. I think it's good to remember that this part of your body can point to something – an institution, or someone that resembles a power – to let them know, and let yourself know, that you exist.

Ai Weiwei31 collaborationsAi Weiwei is unafraid to speak truth to power. He’s one of the most famous living artists today – a testament to the breadth and vision of his practice. Effortlessly, he moves between different media, from sculpture and architecture to performance and documentary film. His work is often monumental in scale and is driven by a hunger for truth and justice. In 2008, for example, Ai spent many months collecting the names of over 5000 children who lost their lives in the Sichuan earthquake. This unflinching dedication to human rights saw him detained by the Chinese government for 81 days in 2011, accused of ‘subverting the state.’
