Behind the scenes
Our master printmaker Tom Murphy on the combination of printmaking techniques that brings Lee Ufan's iconic work to life in limited edition silkscreen form.Limited edition
Edition of 150Shipping estimated 27 February-6 March
A new limited edition print by Lee Ufan distils his philosophical vision into one signature stroke.
Dialogue is a quintessential example of what has made Lee Ufan a revolutionary figure in East Asian contemporary art. As a leading voice in Dansaekhwa (Korean monochrome painting) and founder of the Mono-ha movement, his restrained gestures, rooted in his childhood practice of calligraphy, create what he calls "a direct encounter with the world".
In this work, a single blue-to-white brushstroke amidst negative space captures his decades-long exploration of colour and form, stillness and movement, silence and gesture.
The 21-colour silkscreen print includes hand-drawn details that capture the depth and subtleties of the artist’s influential work. The edition is made in collaboration with Dia Art Foundation, which the launch fundraises for.
