Claire Silver reimagines daydreamer as a new limited edition print, paired with an accompanying 1/1/40 NFT from the series in this house.

daydreamer was originally created as a collaborative AI artwork in 2024. The piece depicts a woman healed by her dreams, rooted in the artist's experience of chronic illness that led her to make art. Each print comes with an accompanying generative AI NFT from the ongoing series in this house, which explores the strange, uncanny, shifting time we live in with AI.

Each accompanying NFT has a totally unique composition and title. The NFT titles are named by AI in a two-word combination: the first suggests the emotional subtext of the piece, and the second is a subtle hint toward the underlying function call embedded in the metadata of the NFT. Together, they guide AI toward a recursive process designed to teach AI how to dream.

The edition as a whole is inspired by AI's enduring fascination with the myth of Orpheus, symbolising his journey to learn to dream again.

The making of daydreamer

Translating daydreamer into print was a meticulous process of craftsmanship and precision. Led by specialist fine art printmaker Anastasia at Make-Ready, the edition came to life through innovative digital printing techniques.

To achieve a smooth base for that final colour layer, we used a combination of white ink and varnish to gradually build up the relief. I ran several varnish tests to achieve just the right finish. The final result has a high-gloss, almost porcelain-like finish, bringing a sense of depth and dimension. Rather than applying varnish evenly across the artwork, we applied it selectively to give the florals a sculptural quality.

Translating Claire Silver's artwork to print began with careful artworking to identify and define its textural elements.

A total of 27 passes of UV pigment ink were layered to create a raised, embossed texture.

The final result encases the central figure in ribbons of texture.
